Before the decoration, many people tend to go into a misunderstanding: they think that good design must cost a lot of money, and they also like to blindly follow all kinds of “online celebrity models”. But until I really lived in it, I found that many designs that spent huge sums of money were actually “useless”, and it was really not cost-effective to spend money but not get the ideal effect.
I am very glad that I decisively insisted on “5 no installation” when decorating my home. Giving up these impractical designs not only saves a lot of budget, but also makes daily life more comfortable.
1. No solid wood skirting
Skirting is a common decoration at home, which mainly plays three roles:
1. Protect the wall:This is its main function. Installed at the foot of the wall, it can avoid bumping and damaging the wall when mopping the floor and moving furniture.

2. Visual connection:Make the transition at the junction of the wall and the ground more natural, and have the effect of beautifying and decorating.
3. Cover stains:The foot of the wall is easy to be stained with dust and leave footprints, and the skirting can hide these, making it easier to clean.

Many families like to use solid wood skirting, which feels good texture and environmentally friendly. However, the price of solid wood is on the high side, and the maintenance is troublesome, so it is easily affected by humidity to expand, contract and arching. Its waterproofness is also average. If the ground is often wet, it may lead to mold, blackening and even moth-eaten over time.
I chose aluminum alloy skirting when decorating my home. This material has become more and more popular in recent years. It is lightweight, colorful, simple and modern in appearance, and durable and environmentally friendly. When installing, it is fixed directly with buckles, without gluing, which is more trouble-free than wood.It is recommended to choose a narrow model with a height of less than 5 cm, which will look more refined.
2. Do not install multi-layer ceilings
The suspended ceiling is mainly to decorate the ceiling, make up for the shortcomings of the building structure, and make the top surface look more beautiful.

Nowadays, the multi-layered ceiling is very popular. It does look layered, and light strips can be embedded in the grooves, which makes the atmosphere full when the lights are turned on.
But if you really use it, you will know that its shortcomings are also obvious:
1. High cost:The process is more complicated than that of ordinary ceilings, and the labor cost is often half as expensive. The decoration budget goes up immediately.
2. Accumulated dust is difficult to clean:Each “step” is a platform for receiving ash, and it is hidden inside the ceiling. It can’t be cleaned daily at all, so it has to be handled by professionals, which is expensive and troublesome.
3. May breed bacteria:If it accumulates dust and humidity for a long time, it will easily become a “nest” of small bugs, which is detrimental to the health of indoor environment.
My home didn’t make a complicated ceiling. On the one hand, it was to control the budget, and on the other hand, it was to pursue environmental protection-after all, the less decoration materials were used, the smaller the hidden danger of formaldehyde. The restaurant only made a simple single eyelid side hanging, with a small hill spotlight, with a lower hanging of 30 cm and a width of 20 cm; The bedroom uses plasterboard to walk around the top, which is simple and layered.
3. No main light is installed
The design without main lamp was particularly popular a while ago, but now the popularity is gradually subsiding. The main reason is that many families are “afraid after using it once”.

It does have many shortcomings:
1. The whole house must be suspended:Most lamps without main lights need to be embedded in the ceiling, which requires a whole-house ceiling, which is very unfriendly to high-level apartments.
2. High design threshold:It seems simple, but in fact, the lighting is very particular. It is easy for ordinary people to overturn their own planning, so they have to hire a professional designer.
3. Complex wiring and high cost:It is necessary to plan complicated circuits in advance, and installation and later maintenance are more troublesome and expensive than ordinary lamps.
In fact, the lighting at home doesn’t need to be too complicated.A large ceiling lamp in the living room with several spotlights is bright enough and layered; The restaurant is equipped with a long chandelier, which makes the light focus on the meal more attractive; Simple ceiling lights in bedrooms are enough; Integrated flat panel lamp for kitchen and bathroom, bright and affordable.
4. Don’t install door stones
In order to save the budget, the whole floor of my house is paved with the same 800 * 800 mm light-colored tiles, which have low loss and affordable price.
Traditional decoration likes to lay door stones at the door of each room to divide the space. However, there are very few styles of door stones, and they are basically dark. When paired with my light-colored tiles, it will look very abrupt and destroy the overall feeling.
So I chose to lay the tile through and finish the joints. The biggest advantage of this is that the integrity is extremely strong and the space looks more coherent and larger. Moreover, ceramic tiles are more wear-resistant, easy to care for, waterproof and moisture-proof than wooden floors, and more cost-effective.
5. Do not install small tiles
Many “online celebrity decoration” on the Internet are keen to use small square tiles and small tiles. At first glance, they are really unique, but after a long time, they are densely packed and easy to look at and become outdated.
Especially in the kitchen and bathroom, it is really not recommended to use small bricks. The shortcomings are too prominent:
1. Too many gaps:Small bricks mean dense gaps, which are especially easy to hide dirt and practices. Cleaning is a big project.
2. High process requirements:It is a test of the craftsmanship of the tiling master. Once the seams are not aligned, they will look crooked and the effect will be greatly reduced.
3. Higher costs:It takes more time to paste small bricks, and the labor cost naturally rises. The amount and cost of subsequent beauty joints far exceed that of conventional large bricks.
