9 days, safari Botswana by small plane: Okavango Delta and Makadikadi Salt Marshes.

Day 1 Arrive at Maun and explore the Makadikadi Salt Marsh

Arrive at Maun Airport in Botswana, transfer directly to a light plane and fly to the vast Makadikadi Salt Marsh. After landing, I stayed in the wild luxury tent camp, took a short rest, and started my first safari by off-road vehicle in the afternoon, familiarizing myself with this strange landform.

Makadikadi is one of the best salt marshes in the world, which is completely different from the typical African grassland scenery. It was dry and open, like we were on another planet. You can find only 8,000 rare striped hyenas left in the world, and you can also meet a lively and lovely meerkat family that is not afraid of people at all. If it comes between November and April of the following year, there is still a chance to bump into the great migration of more than 50,000 zebras and wildebeests, which is one of the most spectacular wildlife wonders in southern Africa.

Day 4 Safari to Northern Okavango

Take a small plane to the famous northern Okavango Delta. After settling in at the new camp in the afternoon, we can continue to hunt.

Today’s camp is on a plain with seasonal water, and its design is very old Botswana, like going back to the adventure era in the middle of last century. There are many ways to play here. You can drive to find animals on land, or you can travel through waterways by motorboat or traditional canoe.

Day 5 Northern Okavango Safari

Northern Okavango is a great place to see the “Five Overlord of Africa” (all four species are found except rhinos). Today, you will drive and take a boat, and look for lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, hippos and all kinds of antelopes in this world where land and water are intertwined.

Day 6 to Okavango East

Another small flight, this time to the east of Okavango. After arriving in the afternoon, the off-road vehicle safari will be arranged as usual.

Tonight’s camp is tucked away in a private reserve, undisturbed by other tourists, and this delta seems to be yours alone. There is a natural pond in front of the camp, which is the home of hippos. Elephants often come to drink water and play. You can sit on the terrace of your room and watch the daily life of animals.

Days 7 and 8 Okavango Eastern Safari

Have fun in the Eastern Reserve these two days. It’s still the old rule, driving and taking a boat, and looking for more than 50 species of wild animals living here. There is a “secret weapon” in the camp-they have their own animal tracking team, which does scientific research and monitoring all the year round. Therefore, before departure, the guide often already knows where the animal is, and it is particularly efficient when taking you to find it.
