How to make durable cabinets?

The walls were tiled, and the glass doors and windows were covered with water droplets, which reminded me of the experience of renting a house a few years ago: the wet weather corroded the cabinet door panels, and as a result, the door panels directly fell off! So today we will talk about customized cabinets, focusing on how to make them more durable.

1. Which cabinet board is better?

Because I have seen the tragic situation of inferior cabinets after being damp with my own eyes, I am particularly concerned about the boards used in cabinets. Let’s talk about some common cabinet boards:

① Particle board: not recommended

The loss I suffered from renting a house before was the cabinet made of particle board. This kind of board will become as brittle as pieces of paper when it gets damp, and the cabinet door will easily fall off, and even the whole cabinet may collapse. Therefore, when customizing cabinets, I personally do not recommend choosing particle board or density board.

▲ The kitchen environment is humid, so it is not recommended to use particle board and density board for cabinets.

② Stone: the most stable

Stone is not afraid of moisture, so it is no problem to rinse and soak it directly with water. Therefore, using stone as cabinet cabinet can be said to be an extremely stable choice. My cabinets are made of stone, and the effect is really worthy of praise!

▲ Stone is made of cabinets, which is strong and durable.

③ Multilayer board: high cost performance

The multi-layer board performs well in moisture resistance, and the strength and stability of the board itself are also relatively good. Therefore, it is also a reliable choice to use multi-layer boards to make cabinets, and the price of multi-layer boards is also more cost-effective.

2. Precautions for kitchen worktops

① Countertop material: quartz stone or rock slate

Common stones in home decoration are marble, slate and quartz stone. As a countertop for a kitchen worktop, I personally recommend using slate or quartz stone. Because marble is brittle and easily penetrates into stains such as soy sauce, it is generally not used as kitchen countertops.

▲ The stone of the kitchen worktop can be quartz stone or slate.

② Reinforcement treatment

According to the conventional moving line design, the kitchen console can be divided into “vegetable washing area, vegetable cutting area and cooking area”. The vegetable cutting area is a special area. It is recommended to do special reinforcement treatment during installation, such as thickening the countertop and reinforcing the bracket. In this way, when cutting bones hard, it is not easy to break the countertop.

▲ The vegetable cutting area of the operating table is reinforced.

③ Water retaining strip

Generally, the countertop of the operating table is flat, but because water will splash when washing vegetables and dishes, if the countertop is not blocked, water will easily flow out. Therefore, a circle of water retaining strips is usually made on the edge of the countertop of the kitchen worktop, which can prevent water from flowing to the ground or cabinet doors.

▲ Make a circle of water retaining strips on the outer edge of the operating table.

④ High and low platform

When the cutting area, washing area and cooking area are used, people’s bending degree is different. Therefore, the kitchen operating table can be made into a high and low table. Generally, the countertop in the sink area is higher (the sink is installed under the countertop), and the countertop in the cooking area is shorter (the stove is installed on the countertop). In this way, you don’t have to hunch over when cooking, and it will be easier.

▲ High and low tables make cooking easier.
