The skirting is very useful, so it looks good

In the big event of new house decoration, skirting is often overlooked by everyone, and some people even think it is dispensable, whether it is installed or not. But in fact, this inconspicuous little detail has a big role. It can play a good transition effect at the junction of the wall and the ground, skillfully cover the gaps and flaws left by construction, and also protect the bottom of the wall to avoid bumps and wear caused by daily mopping and walking. When properly paired, baseboards can even be the finishing touch of a space, adding points to the overall effect. So, what is the use of skirting in new house decoration? How should I put it up to look good?

1. The role of skirting

In interior design, the yin corner line, waist line and skirting line all play a role in balancing the vision. Using their sense of lines, materials and colors to echo each other in the space can play a very good beautification and decoration effect. Another important function of skirting is to protect the wall surface. As the name suggests, it is an area of the wall that is easily kicked by feet, so it is more susceptible to bumps. Installing skirting can make the wall and ground more firmly combined, reduce wall deformation, and avoid damage caused by external force collision.

Furthermore, the baseboard also makes it easy to clean. If dirty water is splashed when mopping, it is very convenient to wipe. In addition to the function of protecting the wall, skirting also occupies an important position in the aesthetics of the home. It is the outline of the ground, and people’s eyes often fall on it naturally.

Second, how to pretend to look good

1. Drilling: Before drilling, observe the direction of hydropower pipelines to avoid mistakes. The interval between drilling holes should not be too large, otherwise the baseboard will not be easy to stick to the wall.

Drill holes in the wall surface with special tools. The common length of the baseboard is 2 meters, and in order to fix it more securely, the interval of the drilling holes should be about 40 cm, and the interval at the interface can be smaller. Nail small wooden strips into the drilled holes. The nails that hold the baseboard in place will be nailed to these strips and tend to loosen if they are nailed directly to the wall.

Note: The pipelines of hydropower projects are usually buried in the wall, and the location of the pipelines is often directly below the switches and sockets. When drilling holes, calculate well to avoid damaging the pipelines.

2. Fixing: Before fixing the baseboard, ensure that the wall is smooth and clean, otherwise the baseboard may not be able to completely stick to the wall after installation, leaving ugly gaps.

Align the position of the drilled hole and secure the skirting line with nails. When fixing, pay attention to whether the skirting line is closely fitted to the wall, and the nails should be completely nailed into the skirting line, so that it can’t be seen from the outside.

Note: Whether it is polymer, density board or solid wood skirting, it has the characteristics of thermal expansion and cold contraction. Therefore, the skirting line against the corner of the wall should also be like the floor, leaving an expansion joint of about 1 cm.

3. Corner treatment: In the corner, where the skirting line intersects, the edge of the skirting line needs to be cut at a 45-degree angle, so that no obvious traces will be left at the splicing. Secure the cut baseboard in place. Note: The skirting line of all wall corners needs to be cut at 45 degrees before it can be spliced and installed, otherwise it will affect the beauty.

4. Installation points: It is recommended to use special threaded nails for the nails to fix the skirting line, so that the fixing effect is better and it is not easy to loosen. You can pay attention to it during installation to avoid the construction party cutting corners.

The skirting itself is designed to cover the expansion joints of the floor and give the floor a more aesthetically pleasing look. Therefore, the edges where the skirting lines intersect should be scraped flat with a plane.

The baseboard should be completely close to the wall, leaving no gaps, so that it is more beautiful, especially in the corners. It is best to check the flatness of the wall before installation.
